Day 10 - Old City Jewish Quarter & City of David

Wednesday, October 21

Much of the day will be spent in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. On the way, we hope to begin our day with a visit to the Tombs of the Kings, an amazing first century tomb with a rolling stone.

We enter the Old City through the Jaffa Gate and visit the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, visiting the Roman Cardo, Hezekiah's Broad wall, a mansion from the 1st century BC in the Wohl museum, and ruins of the Byzantine Nea church.

After this, we'll make our way to the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site.
From there, we walk through the Rabbinical Tunnel, enabling you to examine the length of the outer Herodian Temple wall—mostly preserved in perfect condition—including two stone blocks each weighing about 600 tons.
Continue to the Southern Wall excavations and stand on the same steps that Jesus and His disciples used while descending from the Temple Mount.

Outside the city wall, take time to explore the excavations of the City of David, the oldest part of Jerusalem, the site of the city captured and expanded by King David. There are some amazing discoveries here in just the last few years, including the underground tunnel/water system we will explore.
See the Gihon Spring, that main source of the water supply for the city, flowing through the tunnel built by King Hezekiah, into the newly re-discovered Pool of Siloam. Bring your water shoes and flashlight, roll up your pants and walk the length of the tunnel with us (optional).
Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Those who wish can re-visit to Church of the Holy Sepulcher to watch a door closing ceremony that has taken place for centuries.
